Eye specula for lid retraction during eye surgery - Barraquer, Lieberman, Murdoch, Cook and Castroviejo patterns, in wire and solid-blade designs, across adult and paediatric sizes.
About the patterns
Barraquer and Kratz-Barraquer specula use a spring-tensioned wire loop for the blades, giving a light, low-profile hold. Lieberman-style specula have an adjustable locking mechanism so the aperture can be fixed once set. Murdoch and Cook specula use a locking screw to fix the blade separation at a chosen width. Castroviejo and Double-X patterns are solid-blade designs generally used where a firmer hold is needed.

What's the difference between a wire and solid-blade speculum?
Wire specula use a spring-tensioned wire loop for the blades, giving a lighter feel; solid-blade specula have a rigid blade, often with an adjustable locking mechanism for a fixed aperture.

What is a Lieberman speculum's adjustable mechanism for?
It lets the surgeon fix the blade separation at a chosen width once the eye is exposed, so the speculum holds its position without further adjustment.
