About return plates
In monopolar electrosurgery the current returns from the patient to the generator through the return plate. A large, well-attached contact area spreads the current so it does not concentrate and heat the skin. Split (dual-area) plates allow generators with contact quality monitoring to check the plate is properly attached.
Choosing a plate
Single-use adhesive plates are the usual choice. Reusable silicone plates and stainless steel plates suit settings that reprocess them. Match the return cable connector to your generator.
What is the difference between a monopolar and a split plate?
A split plate has two conductive areas, so a generator with contact monitoring can check that the plate is fully attached. A single-area plate cannot be monitored in that way.
Are child sizes available?
Yes, single-use plates come in adult and child sizes.
Do I need a separate cable?
