Castroviejo needle holders in delicate and standard jaw patterns, straight and curved, with and without a locking mechanism, for fine ophthalmic suturing.
About the patterns
Delicate-jaw Castroviejo needle holders suit the finest ophthalmic sutures; standard-jaw versions suit slightly larger needles. Curved jaws help access sutures at an angle; a locking mechanism holds the needle in place between stitches without continuous hand pressure, while a non-locking pattern gives more tactile feedback during fine suturing.
Used with
Needle holders are used alongside tying forceps for the knot itself, throughout corneal and cataract wound closure.

Should I choose a locking or non-locking needle holder?
A locking needle holder holds the needle in place between stitches without continuous hand pressure; a non-locking pattern gives more tactile control during fine suturing. Both are common in ophthalmic surgery, and the choice is largely surgeon preference.
What's the difference between delicate and standard jaws?
Delicate jaws suit the finest ophthalmic sutures; standard jaws suit slightly larger needles and are a little more robust.
