About the patterns
Delicate-jaw Castroviejo needle holders suit the finest ophthalmic sutures; standard-jaw versions suit slightly larger needles. Curved jaws help access sutures at an angle; a locking mechanism holds the needle in place between stitches without continuous hand pressure, while a non-locking pattern gives more tactile feedback during fine suturing.

Should I choose a locking or non-locking needle holder?
A locking needle holder holds the needle in place between stitches without continuous hand pressure; a non-locking pattern gives more tactile control during fine suturing. Both are common in ophthalmic surgery, and the choice is largely surgeon preference.
